AREKUNA

One design. Never the same piece twice. Sculptural wooden handbags by María Teresa Aristeguieta. Each is distinguished by its own grain, tonal depth and natural markings—an individual expression of the design, worked and finished by hand.

María Teresa Aristeguieta

Designer & Founder

María Teresa Aristeguieta is a designer and artist whose practice, developed over more than twenty-five years, transforms reclaimed timber into sculptural handbags of singular character. Informed by studies in museology in Paris and a background spanning interior design, fashion and contemporary art, her work reflects a refined understanding of form, material and the expressive potential of the object.

Her creations have been exhibited in Washington, D.C., New York and Miami, and recognised in New York City and at the Ibero-American Design Biennial in Madrid.

For more than two decades, reclaimed timber has remained at the heart of her practice. Each piece begins with the distinctive grain, texture and history of the wood, which guides its form and reveals its inherent beauty. No two handbags can ever be alike: each is meticulously crafted as an individual work of art, shaped by the material’s own character and brought to life through Aristeguieta’s artistic vision.
