Who We Are

MTAbags is the sculptural handbag practice of María Teresa Aristeguieta. Over more than twenty-five years, she has developed a distinctive language of carved volumes, expressive openings and considered proportions.

Each design brings the character of wood into an object made to be carried. The grain, tonal depth and natural markings belong to the individual piece; the form bears the author’s signature.

Reclaimed timber has been central to the practice for more than two decades. Hand carving and finishing reveal its particular qualities, with the same attention given to the wooden interior as to the exterior.

The work brings together artistic enquiry, material knowledge and the continuity of craft. A recognisable design. An unrepeatable composition in wood.
